Libanesischer Pfund fällt weiter ins Bodenlose

Libanon ist eigentlich ein Staat, der den Kollaps schon hinter sich hat. Aber es wird immer noch schlimmer.

Oft hat man sich in der Vergangenheit gefragt, was eigentlich passiert, wenn im Nahen Osten ein Staat endgültig kollabiert. Der Libanon gab vor einiger Zeit die Antwort: eigentlich nichts. Außer, dass es immer schlimmer wird.

Es gab mal Zeiten da war der Tauschkurs der Lira zum Dollar 1000 : 1. Und heute? Was mit der Währung gerade passiert ist nur Ausdruck der ganzen Misere und niemand weiß, wie sie beendet werden könnte:

The Lebanese pound hits a record low against the dollar on the black market, as the country’s grinding political and economic crises show no signs of abating.

The pound has lost more than 95 percent of its value against the greenback since the start of the economic crisis in 2019.

On Wednesday, it was trading over 75,000 to the dollar, compared with 60,000 at the start of the month, according to websites monitoring the exchange rate.
