Iran: Über 70 Tote bei Explosion im Hafen von Bandar Abbas

Über siebzig Tote und eintausend Verletzte. So lauten inzwischen die offiziellen Zahlen  über die verheerende Explosion im Hafen von Bandar Abbas, bei der wohl Tonnen von Chemikalien in die Luft geflogen sind, die aus China geliefert wurden und als Grundlage von Raketentreibstoff benötigt werden. Laut der Regierung in Teheran sei das Unglück aus Fahrlässigkeit passiert und es habe sich um keinen Anschlag gehandelt.

Wie iranische Quellen berichten, seien unzählige Gebäude schwer beschädigt und die Szenerie erinnere an Beirut im August 2020. Auch gehe man von wesentlich höheren Opferzahlen aus,

Emergency teams worked to battle the blaze for days following the explosion and managed to fully extinguish the flames on Monday, IRNA said, citing officials in the Hormozgan province.

An investigative committee formed to determine the circumstances behind the blast concluded that the reason was a “failure to observe safety and passive defense standards,” warning of discrepancies and saying that security and defense authorities are “seriously seeking to identify the wrongdoers.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ordered a thorough probe into the blast. “Security and judicial officials are required to conduct a thorough investigation, uncover any negligence or intent, and pursue it in accordance with regulations.” 

Inzwischen deutet allerdings ein hochrangiger israelischer Offizier an, dass es sich durchaus um einen Anschlag gehandelt haben könnte:

In an interview with The Media Line, Gen. Amir Avivi hinted at Israeli involvement in a recent chemicalstrike on Iranian rocket fuel, observing that “this attack was on fuel for ballistic rockets. So it makes sensethat this is a planned attack and not an accident.”
